the familiar/ a little lacking

she'd picked up almost all of what she owned, turned her back to anything and everything that was familiar to her and she walked away. she'd thought she'd been making the right choices, picking a path that would lead to happiness. most days were okay days. today, just didn't seem like it was going to be one of those days.

despite the fact that it was her choice to be so far from anything and everything familiar, today she couldn't block the idea from seeping into her soul that she'd made some huge horrible mistake. she considered what it had taken her to get here, and couldn't help but notice that all signs pointed to "don't do it, don't go". she considered how she felt now that she was here- a little lonely, a little lacking in intellectual stimulation, and for some reason, a little empty.

she thought of all the people she'd met and how there was potential for real friendships there, and then she thought of the people she'd walked away from and more than anything she wanted to be back there. she knew in time this place would grow familiar, but her heart wouldn't ever be here. she realized that she shouldn't want to escape her escape. she hoped that today was just a bad day and that tomorrow she'd feel different.
